Hill Country Memorial Hospital Laboratory is a community-based laboratory committed to our vision- Empower others. Create Healthy. The Laboratory offers a comprehensive test menu and rapid turnaround times, specializing in the area of clinical pathology and the testing of clinical specimens. We are subject to the standards required by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) and maintain current CLIA licenses. The Laboratory is accredited by the Joint Commission (TJC). Lab tests are done on different types of specimens. Tests may also need to be performed at specific times and/or on fasting specimens. Common specimens tested are blood, urine and tissue, but specimens can also include sweat, hair, stool and fingernails. In our lab, the majority of tests are done on blood, urine, tissue, cerebral spinal fluid and other bodily fluids.
The HCM Laboratory is divided into separate sections, depending on the technology being used or the specific type of testing being done. Clinical Chemistry concentrates on tests done on the fluid portion of blood, as well as urine and other bodily fluids. Hematology looks at the cellular components of blood and the coagulation factors involved in clotting. Microbiology deals with infectious diseases, which includes diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. Our Blood Bank performs type and screens and crossmatches for compatible blood products . It is also involved with transfusions and infusion therapy. Phlebotomy collects blood specimens for testing. Sophisticated equipment and state-of-the-art technology are utilized in all areas ensuring quality and timely patient testing.
Staffed 24/7 by pathologists, lab technologists, lab technicians and phlebotomists, HCM Lab has 30 full-time and part-time staff members dedicated to ensuring excellence in customer service for all of our patients and clients.
