This seminar is designed to provide knowledge and skills necessary to help control blood sugars through dietary modification. Participants will learn food choice management, food portion management, carbohydrate counting, portion size estimating and meal balancing. The role of the glycemic index as a tool will be taught to help control blood sugars as well as meal planning for eating at home as well as out at restaurants.
This seminar is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to keep blood glucose levels near goal and therefore prevent the complications of diabetes. Individual self care behaviors such as regular exercise and activity, daily glucose monitoring, foot care, dental care, eye care, and sick care will be discussed. Attendees will have the opportunity to develop an individualized self care behavior plan as well as learn strategies for prevention and management of long term complications of diabetes such as nerve damage, small blood vessel disease, heart disease, eye disease and kidney disease.
This seminar is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to cook for someone with diabetes, participant will learn what foods are best to purchase and what to avoid. Techniques will be taught about what works best when preparing foods in regards to how effectively season foods without adding excessive sugar or fat. A small recipe booklet will be provided. No cooking will be done in class.
